This half is starting much the same way the first did, with both sides feeling out the opening minutes and neither really dominating.

Besides Kossler who is an outlier. She managed to get another shot on target from Kossler again but Arnold saved it in the bottom-right corner. Kossler was found off-side minutes later before she was able to make another attempt.

Australia 1-2 Germany, 50 minutes

Welcome back from the break. Germany have made a triple substitution replacing Buhl with Lisa Baym, Brand with Linda Dallmann and Kett with Marie Muller.

Australia 1-2 Germany, 46 minutes

They’ve got one back! I’ll admit, I didn’t see that coming with such few opportunities made in this half. But it’s a tried and tested partnership which nails it for Australia as Carpenter makes a cross to the centre of the box from the right side of the pitch and finds Kerr’s head.

Mahmutovic jumps to try save it but she’s not even close.

That’ll be it for this half.

Australia 1-2 Germany, half-time

Kerr is back up after a break in play and will continue on for the Matildas. Germany win a corner kick but don’t capitalise on the opportunity. Australia will no doubt be looking forward to half-time as two minutes will be added on to the end of this half.

Australia 0-2 Germany, 43 minutes

Kett taunts Arnold into diving for a shot that hits the side netting as Germany keep up the pressure.

It’s been an uninspiring first half for the Matildas so far with insult added to injury as Sam Kerr stays down after contact with Nusken on her right ankle.

She doesn’t get back up afterwards and the ball eventually goes out of play so she can receive treatment on the pitch.

Australia 0-2 Germany, 38 minutes

Caitlin Foord seemed to give some reprieve to Australian fans after getting the side’s first shot in 20 minutes. But instead, Kossler gets a brace, striding solo up the pitch and striking with her right foot from outside the box.

Arnold dives and doesn’t get there in time. That could have been saved.

They almost get a third straight after but the off-side whistle blows instead.

Australia 0-2 Germany, 30 minutes

It felt like a matter of time before Germany found the back of the net. Kossler will claim the goal after Arnold deflected the shot from teammate, Franziska Kett. Kossler just tapped it in at the end.

Germany take the lead.

Australia 0-1 Germany, 25 minutes

There’s a collision between Kerr and her former Chelsea teammate, Nusken but both players are back up and laughing it off. Arnold blocks a shot in the centre of the box by punching it away and the Matildas clear the ball again, although it seems only a matter of time.

Germany are being let down by their ability right in front of the box, it’s an inexperienced side compared to the average age of the Matildas’ squad.

Australia 0-0 Germany, 20 minutes
