NBC is preparing to launch a new sitcom titled “Newlyweds,” scheduled to premiere on October 23. The series stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, with Jamie Lee Curtis also featured in the cast.
The comedy was co‑created by veteran writer and producer Gail Lerner and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Lerner was set to serve as the show’s showrunner, overseeing the development and production of the series.
On Friday, Lerner announced via Instagram that she had been dismissed from her role as showrunner. In her post she expressed disappointment, writing, “I’m so sad,” while also stating, “Here’s the good news: I couldn’t be more proud of the new sitcom Newlyweds that I created with the singular Jamie Lee Curtis.”
According to the information provided to her, the termination was attributed to “creative differences.” Lerner’s statement did not elaborate further on the nature of those differences.
The series will continue toward its scheduled debut despite the behind‑the‑scenes change, and no additional details about the production team have been released since Lerner’s departure.
