Two cars collided on Wilton’s Picton Road, a major arterial road connecting Wollongong and Sydney, before 6.30am, NSW Police said in a statement.
The crash left both drivers trapped. One, who authorities identified as a male in his late teens, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. The other, a 26-year-old man, was treated for head and leg injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Picton Road was closed in both directions for most of Saturday morning, with Transport for NSW encouraging drivers to travel between Sydney and Wollongong via the Hume Motorway or Appin Road. It reopened by midday.
