Donald Trump Criticizes Norway Over Nobel Peace Prize Decision

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly voiced a desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

On October 9, while addressing a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump criticized Norway and the Nobel Committee for not awarding him the prize, calling the decision “disgraceful” and describing it as an “indelible stain” on the country.

His comments came hours after the Nobel Committee announced that the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize would be awarded to Navi Pillay, a former International Criminal Court judge who oversaw a United Nations report concluding that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza.

During the rally, Trump referred to Pillay as a “mystery person” he had never heard of, and listed a number of regional disputes—including the Korean Peninsula, Japan‑North Korea tensions, and China‑Taiwan relations—that he claimed he had helped resolve or prevent, though no specific evidence was offered.

Trump added that the Nobel Peace Prize had been “forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti‑democracy and really enemies of civilisation,” and warned that Norway would not be forgotten for its decision.
