Tensions rise between Norris and Piastri following Singapore GP sprint collision
McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were involved in a collision on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race. The incident has highlighted ongoing tensions between the two drivers.
First reported 3 hours ago · latest update 3 hours agoA blistering Max Verstappen led every single lap from pole, triumphing in Singapore to win the grand prix.
It was slightly awkward though....
Verstappen has been plagued by radio issues so when his engineer congratulated him, we couldn’t hear Verstappen’s response.
Instead, audiences just heard a bunch of garbled noises.
Oh well, I’m sure the Dutchman is pleased with that result.
Charles Leclerc finished in second, with Antonelli in third, Norris fourth and Piastri in fifth.
“Shall I try and help Oscar out or not,” Norris said over the radio.
“No keep going,” his engineer replied.
After stalking the Ferrari for several laps,Piastri tried to make a move, but Hamilton had the inside line and held the spot.
He goes again and HE DOES IT.
The difference between Hamilton and Piastri is now less than one second.
Hamilton is really paying the price for not pitting earlier. I imagine there will be heavy discussions in Ferrari strategy offices.
Can Piastri snatch fifth place?
That’s some good teamwork from Norris.
He asks his engineer if he can do anything to help “back there” referring to Piastri trying to catch Hamilton.
Might be Norris trying to get back in McLaren’s good books after that sprint race incident.
Piastri is roughly five seconds behind Hamilton with three laps to go.
Hamilton’s bad day is getting worse.
He didn’t pit, then lost his place to his teammate.
He then lost his place to Kimi Antonelli followed by Lando Norris, who waited for the perfect opportunity.
The seven-time world champion is now in fifth, with Oscar Piastri behind him in sixth.
Here comes Lando Norris.
The British driver lunges towards the Ferrari, but Hamilton takes evasive action going off track to keep third place.
Kimi Antonelli swoops and takes advantage and snatches fourth place off Norris.
Antonelli is flying now and catches Hamilton to grab third place.
Ten laps to go and Charles Leclerc has cut down Max Verstappen’s lead to roughly 9.7 seconds.
Verstappen’s radio doesn’t seem to be working either, and his Red Bull engineer is trying to communicate to the driver in code.
Red Bull are worried about a potential safety car, which would allow an opportunity for Leclerc to catch Verstappen.
Meanwhile, Lando Norris is gaining on Hamilton. Norris has tyres that are 14 laps fresher.
Unless some gigantic calamity happens.… Max Verstappen will likely win this race.
Verstappen now leads Leclerc by 15 seconds, with Lewis Hamilton in third.
Lando Norris is in fourth with Kimi Antonelli in fifth and Oscar Piastri in sixth.
Piastri started his race in sixth so today is shaping up to be another disappointing outcome, although not of his making. He had a slow pitstop and then a tyre puncture.
There’s still 12 laps to go and it’s likely Norris could catch Verstappen and snatch a podium position.
Lewis Hamilton has let Charles Leclerc through. His teammate was much quicker and had fresher tyres.
Things are getting intense.
Hamilton lost two seconds to Leclerc during that most recent fastest lap. He may have to let his teammate through, who looks faster.
Neither Ferrari realistically have the pace to challenge Verstappen.
