Review of Moke restaurant
Moke is characterized as a coastal fine-dining establishment.
First reported 4 hours ago · latest update 4 hours agoMichael and Alexandra Cole extract maximum cosiness out of this weatherboard cottage. Between the scent of the open fire, bare timber floors and walls covered with local artists’ work, they’ve perfected the illusion of dining in someone’s lounge room.
You might hear the clink of glasses – a toast to a birthday or anniversary. Then the curtain opens on a spread of bite-sized yellowfin tuna tacos, ocean-salty “Harry’s” mussels from Flinders, and a tartlet of goat’s cheese, yuzu and pear. Passionfruit-butter sauce pops against snow-white orange roughy, while pillowy gnocchi with duck ragu envelops you in richness. Golden roast chicken carved into elegant portions sits under shaved truffles harvested just down the road.
Glide towards a chocolate choux bun with local hazelnut and plum jam as staff match the room’s intimacy with polish and care, folding your napkin the moment you step away.
Best for: Low-key yet intimate celebrations on a weekend getaway.
