A 20-year-old college student drowned in Hesaraghatta Lake after he went swimming with his friends instead of attending college, the police said. The deceased, Harsha, was the son of Vishwanath and Bhavya, residents of Kamakshipalya.

According to reports, Harsha had completed the Ganesh puja at home on Monday and had told his mother that a Ganesha idol had been installed at his college. He then left home, but instead of going to college, he went to Hesaraghatta Lake with his friends.

While swimming, Harsha reportedly entered deeper waters and drowned after struggling to swim.

On receiving information about the incident, Soladevanahalli police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.

With the assistance of local diving expert Eshwar Malpe, the team recovered Harsha’s body from the lake.

The body was shifted to the Victoria Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The Soladevanahalli police have registered a case and have initiated further investigation.

The incident has left Harsha’s family devastated.
