Bollywood actor Imran Khan has been ordered to leave India following his participation in a protest on 10 October. The demonstration was organized by the Cockroach Janta Party, a movement led by members of Generation Z that has been calling for electoral reforms and the resignation of a top Indian election official. Protesters have alleged that there has been widespread vote fraud, a claim that the Indian election commission has formally denied.
The legal action against the actor began after a complaint was filed by Kirit Somaiya, a leader of the governing Bharatiya Janata Party. In his complaint, Somaiya accused Khan of participating in a conspiracy intended to spread anarchy within the country. Authorities subsequently stated that the actor was ordered to leave because he participated in the agitation despite not holding Indian citizenship.
During the event, Khan was briefly detained by police alongside other demonstrators. Following his detention, he shared a photograph of himself inside a police van on Instagram with the caption, "Apparently I'm going for a drive." The post gained significant attention, receiving more than two million likes on the platform.
Prior to his detention, Khan spoke to reporters regarding his presence at the protest. He clarified that he was not representing any specific organization and was attending as an individual resident of the city. He stated that his goal was to observe why the freedom of movement was being restricted and why the voices of the public were being suppressed.
The incident occurred amidst a broader wave of unrest, as thousands of protesters have gathered over the weekend to voice their concerns regarding the electoral process. While the actor has addressed his motivations for attending the demonstration, he has not issued a direct response to the specific allegations of conspiracy leveled against him by the governing party.
