First reported 1 day ago · latest update 1 day agoPresident Donald Trump said on Oct. 15 that the upcoming execution of former Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan will not be livestreamed. The decision applies to the execution scheduled for Dec. 3, which will be carried out by firing squad.
In a statement, Trump explained that while a live broadcast might have served as a deterrent, many people would prefer not to watch the execution through any visual device. He added that the immediate families of the Fort Hood victims will be allowed to view the execution in person if they choose.
Hasan was convicted in a military trial for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people. The Pentagon had previously considered streaming the execution, prompting public debate about the appropriateness of such a broadcast.
Several Republican officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, as well as religious leaders and international observers, voiced concerns about the livestream plan. Recent public opinion polls have shown that a majority of Americans oppose broadcasting the execution.
Trump concluded that the families “deserve to witness justice,” emphasizing that the execution will proceed as scheduled without a live feed while providing in‑person access for those directly affected.
