The campus was officially inaugurated in Bengaluru on Thursday. According to details shared by the university, around 20,000 students applied for admission, of whom 300 were selected based on eligibility criteria such as English language proficiency and Class 12 marks. Speaking to The Hindu, Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor, University of Liverpool, said, “Bengaluru was our destination in India largely because it is a vibrant, entrepreneurial and technology-driven city.
Our partnerships with universities and institutions in the city, including the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Hindustan Unilever, are longstanding.” Prof. Jones also pointed out that foreign universities opening campuses in India is advantageous for students. “Students will now have multiple options.
Besides, it will reduce the cost of higher education abroad in terms of travel, accommodation and food. They can still pursue quality education while being close to their family and friends. There will also be student and faculty exchange programmes, with students from India travelling to the U.K. campus and vice versa,” he said.
The Bengaluru campus is small at the moment, and the university plans to expand the number of programmes based on student response and academic growth. “The curriculum we are offering, the examination pattern and assessment methods will be similar to those followed at our campus in the U.K.,” he added.
To enhance students’ employability, the university has developed relationships with a number of industries and businesses in India. Prof. Jones said, “We signed MoUs a year to 18 months ago with various companies when this campus was announced. Companies including Wipro, Unilever, Axis Bank and AstraZeneca represent a wide range of businesses based in Bengaluru.
The whole purpose is to ensure we have strong employment opportunities for our students as soon as they graduate. We have also embedded the skills required by industry into our curriculum.” Box: Courses offered Undergraduate Programmes BSc (Hons) Computer Science BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Software Development BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences BA (Hons) Business Management BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance BA (Hons) Game Design Postgraduate Programmes MSc Accounting and Finance MSc Computer Science Courses offered Undergraduate Programmes BSc (Hons) Computer Science BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Software Development BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences BA (Hons) Business Management BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance BA (Hons) Game Design Postgraduate Programmes MSc Accounting and Finance MSc Computer Science
