Dead man found north of Melbourne may have been targeted

Police are treating the death of a man who was shot at Wollert, north of Melbourne, on Thursday afternoon as a targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to a property in Gypsum Drive following reports a man had been found unresponsive just before 5:30pm.

Victoria Police said the 42-year-old man sustained injuries consistent with a shooting.

His death is being treated as suspicious.

A crime scene was set up at the property and homicide detectives are investigating.

Police said no arrests had been made and the investigation into the man's death was ongoing.

A section of the area remained cordoned off on Friday morning as police continued to investigate.

A neighbour told the ABC they heard three shots being fired on Thursday afternoon.

A woman was seen being consoled by police after the incident yesterday.

Another neighbour, Humeyra Thowhury, said she heard a woman screaming

"We didn't expect something to happen here like that," she said.

"We used to think that this was a very safe place but when something happens in your own road and you don't know what happened, it's scary."

Another nearby resident, Prakriti Tiwari, said the incident was "like a movie scene".

"We were pretty scared because we didn't know what was going on," she said.

"We're really shocked, to be honest. We're having the conversation about whether this is a safe place to live."
