John Ternus, Apple’s new ‘wicked calm’ CEO - Financial Times

Apple has officially transitioned to new leadership, with John Ternus assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer as of September 1. The change was confirmed through an update to the company’s official leadership page, marking the first time the organization has appointed a new CEO since 2011.

Ternus brings a long history with the company to his new position, having first joined Apple in 2001. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he served as the senior vice president of hardware engineering, a role he held since 2021. His career trajectory within the firm also included a promotion to vice president of hardware engineering in 2013.

Tim Cook, who served as CEO for 15 years, has stepped down from the role. Following his departure from the chief executive position, Cook has transitioned to the role of executive chairman of Apple's board of directors. In this new capacity, he will continue to assist with specific aspects of the company’s operations, including engagement with various stakeholders.

In a letter addressed to employees regarding the transition, Cook reflected on his tenure and the company's progress. The leadership change comes as the company continues to manage its position as one of the world's most valuable technology firms, overseeing a product lineup that includes the iPhone, Mac, and various other hardware devices.

At 51 years old, Ternus begins his tenure as the head of the company with a significant window of time before reaching a typical retirement age. Industry observers note that this could allow for a long-term leadership period, potentially spanning the next 10 to 15 years. The transition marks a major shift in the corporate structure of the organization as it moves into its next phase under new executive guidance.
