US military says it completed latest wave of strikes on Iran - Reuters

The U.S. military announced on Tuesday that it had completed a new wave of strikes against targets in Iran. The operation was described as a response to an escalating series of confrontations that began with a weekend exchange of fire, the first such clash since late July.

According to the U.S. Central Command, the strikes hit a range of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities, including air‑defense sites, radar installations, maritime assets, mine‑laying capabilities and communications nodes. An additional report indicated that two Iranian government‑operated tankers were also targeted during the attacks.

The latest U.S. actions followed Monday attacks on two tankers departing the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil‑shipping lane that Iran has effectively closed to commercial traffic. In retaliation, Iranian forces struck U.S. assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq, marking what officials described as the most serious escalation in weeks and contributing to a rise in global energy prices.

Separate reports from Iranian authorities said a wedding near the coastal town of Sirik, close to the Strait of Hormuz, was hit by the fighting. The Iranian Red Crescent reported five fatalities, including a four‑year‑old child, and 50 injuries, while another agency cited a provincial official who put the number of wounded at 68.

The exchange follows earlier hostilities in the region, notably a joint U.S.–Israeli strike on Iran on 28 February, to which Tehran responded with its own attacks. The recent wave of strikes and counter‑strikes underscores a heightened state of tension between the United States and Iran.
