US investigating airstrike in Sirik following Iranian claims of civilian casualties

The United States is currently investigating an airstrike that Iranian officials claim struck a home hosting a wedding party inside Iran. US Vice President JD Vance confirmed the investigation on Thursday, stating that the administration is actively looking into the incident to determine the facts of what occurred.

Speaking to reporters during a White House press briefing, Vance emphasized the US government's commitment to examining the reports. He stated that the administration is investigating the matter because they care and want to know the details of the situation.

Vance also drew a distinction between the military operations of the United States and those of Iran. He noted that if the US military does make mistakes, they acknowledge and learn from them in an effort to improve future operations, framing this as a key difference between the two nations.

According to Iranian officials, the airstrike targeted a residential home during a wedding celebration. The initial reports from Iran indicated that four people were killed and nearly 70 others were wounded in the blast.

The casualty count from the incident has since risen. Iranian state television reported on Thursday that a fifth victim, identified as a 22-year-old woman, has since died in the hospital from injuries sustained during the strike.

In response to the allegations, the United States military released a statement acknowledging that it is aware of the reports coming out of Iran. However, military officials maintained that the US military does not target civilians in its operations.
