Ukraine to procure around 1,000 Patriot missiles with allied assistance

Ukraine is arranging a supply of roughly 1,000 missiles for its U.S.-designed Patriot air‑defence systems through cooperation with allied countries. The procurement is being facilitated with the assistance of a loan from the European Union.

The missiles are intended to bolster Ukraine’s air‑defence capabilities amid ongoing conflict. The agreement involves multiple allies, though the specific nations participating in the contract have not been detailed. Funding for the acquisition is being provided in part by the EU loan mechanism, which is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s defence needs.

Yevhenii Khmara, a member of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, noted that the majority of the missiles are expected to be delivered over the coming years rather than immediately. He called for more urgent assistance to address the current shortfall in air‑defence resources.

The timeline for delivery suggests a phased rollout, with initial shipments likely to arrive later this year and subsequent batches following in subsequent years. Ukrainian officials have stressed the importance of accelerating the supply to meet immediate operational requirements.
