Sacha Baron Cohen to Star in Quentin Tarantino’s Stage Play ‘The Popinjay Cavalier’ In London

Sacha Baron Cohen will star in the West End production of Quentin Tarantino‘s stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Baron Cohen is said to be playing the title character in the play, which is described as a “swashbuckling comedy.” The play is set to open at a yet-to-be named West End venue in spring 2027. This marks Baron Cohen’s stage debut.

The play, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment, also marks the stage debut for Tarantino, known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. While little of the plot has been revealed the producers have said that the play is set in 1830s Europe and have described the show as “a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen.”

The casting news comes ahead of the release of Ali G Who Iz I?, starring Baron Cohen, reprising his satirical character of Ali G, a hip-hop journalist, which is opening globally from Amazon MGM in October.

Baron Cohen previously won two BAFTA Awards for Da Ali G Show and is a three-time Oscar nominee, for writing Borat and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, as well as an acting nomination for his role in The Trial of the Chicago 7. He is a three-time Golden Globe Award winner for Borat and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

His latest films include the Netflix comedy, Ladies First, as well as an appearance in Balls Up on Prime Video.
