Ukrainian official indicates potential resumption of talks in October

Ukrainian officials are preparing for the potential resumption of three-sided talks in October aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia. The announcement follows recent diplomatic activity involving United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who conducted visits to both Moscow and Kyiv. These meetings marked the first time the envoys had traveled to the Russian capital since February and their inaugural visit to the Ukrainian capital.

Kyrylo Budanov, a senior Ukrainian official, confirmed the preparations for the upcoming discussions, noting that the country is readying itself for the prospect of renewed negotiations involving Russia and the United States. The last meeting of this nature took place in Geneva in February, after which US-led diplomatic efforts experienced a hiatus as Washington shifted its focus toward the conflict with Iran.

Following his visits to both capitals, Witkoff stated that there is a welcomed sense of momentum regarding the progression of these talks. President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the ideas presented by the envoys as decent and worthwhile. He further suggested that a future three-sided meeting could be hosted by nations such as Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, or Switzerland.

The Kremlin has responded with caution regarding the potential for renewed dialogue. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow does not rule out the resumption of peace talks, though he emphasized that it remains too early to determine a specific timeline or location for such an event. While both sides have expressed a willingness to engage, significant differences between the parties remain.
