Amit Shah Targets Uniform Civil Code Implementation in 21 NDA-Ruled States by 2029

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in all NDA-ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, but said the government was still discussing the preparation of the National Register of Citizens with stakeholders. The party wants to enforce a uniform legal framework on subjects like marriage, inheritance, and divorce for all citizens. Tribal groups have been exempted from the UCC to help them retain their ethnic customs, traditions, and identity.
