Saudi Pipeline Outage Risks 4% of Global Oil Supply

Saudi Arabia faces the potential loss of approximately 4 percent of the global oil supply if its major east-west pipeline to the Red Sea is not restarted within the coming days. The pipeline, which spans the Arabian Peninsula, has been offline since September 11 following drone attacks. The facility has served as a critical route for the country to export roughly 4 million barrels per day, allowing the nation to bypass the Strait of Hormuz during regional wartime disruptions.

The shutdown has exacerbated an existing global supply crunch, contributing to record-high fuel prices and rising inflation. The uncertainty surrounding the pipeline's status has also been linked to recent increases in United States bond yields, which have reached their highest levels since the 2008 financial crisis.

Estimates regarding the duration of the outage remain varied. Some assessments suggest that repairs could take between five and six weeks to complete. Conversely, other projections indicate that the damage might be addressed more quickly, potentially allowing for a partial resumption of pumping while repair work continues.

The Saudi Arabian government has not provided specific details regarding the full extent of the damage or a definitive timeline for when the route will return to full capacity. Requests for comment from the Saudi energy ministry and the government media office have not yet received a response.
