US women's basketball team wins fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup

The United States women's basketball team secured its fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup title by defeating France 97-79 in Berlin. This victory marks the 12th gold medal for the United States in the tournament's history, extending a period of dominance in which no other nation has claimed more than six titles.

The championship game remained competitive through the first half, with France holding a 45-43 lead at halftime. The momentum shifted decisively in the third quarter, during which the United States outscored France 30-12. Following a 47-47 tie early in the period, the Americans initiated a 7-0 run to take the lead. This was followed by a 9-0 surge late in the quarter, which helped the United States establish a 73-57 advantage heading into the final frame.

Breanna Stewart led the American effort with a double-double, recording 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jackie Young contributed 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Kahleah Copper added 15 points. Chelsea Gray and Caitlin Clark also reached double figures, each scoring 12 points for the winning side.

France was led by Dominique Malonga, who finished the contest with 21 points and six rebounds. Gabby Williams supported the effort with 20 points and seven assists. Despite France's early lead, the United States maintained control throughout the second half to secure the win and continue their undefeated streak in the tournament.
