Woodside Energy board member resigns after seven months

Local Government Inspector Tony Brown is expected to deliver an action plan to the council before addressing media outside of the council chambers following the meeting.

Former City of Kwinana mayor Carol Adams was appointed as the local government monitor in January and wrapped up on June 19.

The City of Perth was the first local government to be allocated a monitor, just two weeks into Brown’s role as the head local government watchdog.

Tickets to the Sydney versus Dockers preliminary final in Sydney this Friday have sold out within 45 minutes of going on sale to the public.

While the AFL does not publicly release the exact cap on the total number of tickets reserved for away team members, the travelling club is typically granted between 15,000 and 20,000 tickets for the SCG venue, which can hold up to 48,000 people.

Qantas has confirmed it has put on additional flights for the showdown.

Returning to the post we brought you earlier about the shark attack off a Geraldton beach, the victim has been identified as local man, Mel Ismail.

It is understood Ismail had been surfing alone when another surfer arrived at the beach and spotted him waving from the shore.

The second surfer bravely waded out to the site of the attack and dragged Ismail back to shore.

It’s understood Ismail has suffered a serious leg injury.

Midland Brick’s stocks are beginning to dwindle, forcing the company to limit the number of bricks builders can buy, which could lead to major construction delays.

Housing minister John Carey said he was very concerned by the development.

“Obviously, we all know the history of commercial brick operations in Western Australia, and a number of players have left the market, and that has ... caused pressure,” he said.

“Certainly, the state government’s perspective is; we will support any expansion of Midland Brick operations … they have five kilns operating 24/7, seven days a week. But we need those expansions.”

Carey said 68 per cent of the state’s new homes were built with double brick, but that the state government had been encouraging alternatives like timber, modular and steel, to help ease the burden on the one material.

There has been an incident involving a shark at a beach in Geraldton this morning.

Fisheries reported the ‘possible incident’ occurred at 9.45am at Glenfield Beach, but provided no further details.

St John Ambulance said a man, aged in his 50s, was rushed to Geraldton hospital from the beach.

The beach is a popular surfing spot.

Ocean users are being advised to be cautious as authorities investigate the incident.

Premier Roger Cook, Health Minister Meredith Hammat and Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey attended the impressive $38.6 million facility called Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) this morning to mark the occasion.

The facility faced significant opposition from the Nedlands council and nearby residents, which Carey reflected on this morning.

“This project wasn’t easy. We know the history of this project. At every turn, the [Perth Children’s Hospital] foundation had to fight to deliver this project from a recalcitrant council that did everything to oppose it,” he said.

Indonesian Police said the grim discovery was made yesterday morning after the mother of the children, aged 4 and 6, asked neighbours to carry out a welfare check at the rental house.

She was in Jakarta at the time.

Officers are investigating the cause of death for the three people, with autopsies being carried out.

In an announcement on the ASX this morning, Cutifani said the decision was made after careful consideration.

“My decision has been made for personal reasons, as I reassess my global professional commitments and identify where I can best devote my time and personal contributions,” he said.

“I wish the Woodside team every success in the future.”

Cutifani has accepted a non-executive director role on the board of gold miner, Northern Resources.

Shareholders will vote on his appointment in November.
