X Corp and SpaceXAI drop antitrust lawsuit against Apple

Elon Musk’s X Corp and SpaceXAI have moved to dismiss their antitrust lawsuit against Apple, according to a court filing submitted on Monday. The legal challenge, which was originally filed in a United States federal court in Fort Worth, Texas, in August 2025, has now been resolved. The filing did not provide a specific reason for the decision to drop the case, nor did it clarify whether a settlement had been reached between the parties.

The lawsuit had centered on allegations that Apple and OpenAI violated antitrust laws through an agreement that integrated ChatGPT as the primary generative AI chatbot within Apple’s iPhone operating system. X and SpaceXAI, the developer of the Grok chatbot, argued that this arrangement granted ChatGPT exclusive access to billions of user prompts via features such as Siri, the iPhone camera, and Apple’s Writing Tools. The plaintiffs contended that this deal effectively locked out competitors and hindered their ability to achieve market scale.

In addition to the claims regarding the OpenAI partnership, the complaint alleged that Apple utilized its App Store to disadvantage competing AI services. The plaintiffs accused the tech giant of manipulating app rankings and delaying the review process for rival applications. X and SpaceXAI asserted that, absent the exclusive agreement with OpenAI, Apple would have had no incentive to refrain from more prominently featuring the X and Grok applications within its store.

The original legal action sought to challenge what the plaintiffs described as a combination of market positions intended to reinforce the dominance of both Apple and OpenAI. While the lawsuit specifically targeted the integration of ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence, it also suggested that the companies were conspiring to prevent innovators like X and SpaceXAI from competing fairly.

Despite these allegations, reports indicate that other competitors in the AI space have seen their applications reach the top of the App Store charts following the implementation of the Apple-OpenAI partnership. Both DeepSeek and Perplexity are noted as having achieved such rankings, though the Grok application did not reach similar positions.
