Flash flooding impacts New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

Flash flooding swept through parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, prompting emergency rescues and disrupting a local half‑marathon. Heavy rain caused water levels to rise rapidly, submerging roadways and creating waist‑deep conditions in several areas.

Runners participating in the half‑marathon were forced to continue the race through flooded streets, with many having to wade through water that reached waist height. The unexpected conditions left several participants stranded and required race officials to halt sections of the event for safety reasons.

Motorists also encountered severe difficulties as vehicles became submerged in the rising water. Numerous cars were stranded on flooded roads, and emergency responders conducted water rescues to extract occupants and secure the affected vehicles.

State officials in Connecticut reported that some locations received as much as seven inches of rain within a very short period, contributing to the rapid onset of the flash floods. The intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems and accelerated the accumulation of water on streets and low‑lying areas.
