First reported 14 hours ago · latest update 13 hours agoA man in his 60s from Stockport, Greater Manchester, has pleaded guilty to 60 criminal offences involving the drugging and sexual assault of his wife over a period of more than two decades. The defendant, who cannot be named to protect the legal anonymity of his victim, entered his final pleas at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday. He had previously admitted to 15 of the charges in June and pleaded guilty to the remaining 45 counts this week.
The charges admitted by the defendant include 21 counts of rape, 15 counts of assault by penetration, 11 counts of sexual assault, and one count of sharing intimate images of his wife without her consent for sexual gratification. Additionally, he admitted to administering a substance with the intent to stupefy or overpower his wife. The offences occurred between 2004 and 2025, during which time prosecutors allege the victim was repeatedly assaulted while unconscious in her own home.
The victim attended the court proceedings, sitting in the public gallery alongside family members. During the hearing, the defendant became visibly emotional as he entered his pleas, at one point being permitted by the judge to sit down in the dock. The victim was reportedly seen sobbing as the admissions were made.
The husband is one of several men involved in the legal proceedings. Twelve other men, aged between 28 and 74, are currently facing trial and have denied multiple serious sexual offences involving the same woman. A 13th man previously entered a guilty plea regarding sexual offences against the victim.
Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson stated that the investigation remains complex and that the force’s primary focus is providing specialist support to the victim. He encouraged anyone concerned about potential drug-facilitated sexual abuse to seek help, noting that victims do not need to have clear memories or proof to be taken seriously.
The husband is expected to be sentenced for his 60 admitted offences at the conclusion of the ongoing trial involving his co-defendants. The court has maintained strict reporting restrictions to ensure the victim’s identity remains protected.
