Mitch McConnell returns to the Senate following absence

Senator Mitch McConnell has returned to the United States Senate following a months-long absence due to health complications. The Republican lawmaker’s return follows a period of uncertainty that began on June 14, when he was hospitalized after a fall. His office provided limited information at the time, which led to public speculation regarding the state of his health.

In July, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear publicly requested that the Senator provide a full update to his constituents, noting that he had received no information regarding the situation. Following these requests, McConnell disclosed that he had briefly lost consciousness during his fall and subsequently dealt with a mild case of pneumonia.

Addressing the rumors surrounding his condition, McConnell stated that his medical team confirmed he did not suffer a concussion or broken bones. He further clarified that he did not experience a heart attack and that there were no tumors present.

Regarding his current capacity, the Senator acknowledged that he is not yet fully recovered. He has informed Senate Majority Leader John Thune that he will continue to undergo physical therapy as advised by his doctors. McConnell committed to being present for critical votes as his health allows, noting that he will do his best to serve the conference as he continues his recovery.
