Pakistan Navy ship collides with Indian warship in international waters

India has summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi to lodge a formal protest following a collision between a Pakistani naval ship and an Indian Navy vessel in the North Arabian Sea. The incident occurred on the evening of September 15 while the Indian warship was conducting a routine surveillance mission in international waters.

According to official statements, the collision was caused by the unprofessional and unsafe maneuvering of the Pakistani naval unit, which approached the Indian vessel at high speed. While the incident resulted in a physical collision, authorities reported that no major damage was sustained by the Indian warship.

The Ministry of External Affairs characterized the conduct of the Pakistani vessel as unacceptable. India has formally asserted that the actions of the Pakistani ship were in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan regarding advance notice of military exercises, maneuvers, and troop movements.

During the summons, the Pakistani diplomat was advised to communicate to his government the necessity for all military units to exercise due care and adhere to the provisions of established bilateral agreements. The objective of this communication is to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.

In addition to the diplomatic protest lodged in New Delhi, India has instructed its own Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to register a similar complaint with the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The incident takes place against a backdrop of ongoing regional tensions between the two nations.
