India and Pakistan exchange protests following naval ship collision

The Indian government has formally protested to Pakistan following a collision between naval vessels from both nations in international waters. The incident, which occurred in the Arabian Sea, prompted India to summon Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi to express strong disapproval regarding the event.

Indian officials characterized the actions of the Pakistani naval unit as unprofessional and unacceptable. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the collision did not result in any major damage to the vessels involved. However, the government maintained that the conduct of the Pakistani ship directly violated established bilateral protocols.

Specifically, India cited Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements. This bilateral pact is intended to govern the behavior of military units at sea and prevent dangerous encounters. India stated that the Pakistani vessel failed to observe the due care required under the terms of this agreement.

In response to the incident, the Indian government has advised Pakistani authorities to ensure that all military units adhere strictly to the provisions of existing agreements to avoid future confrontations. The Indian Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a corresponding protest with the Pakistani government.
