LNP selects 25-year-old adviser as candidate for Brisbane council seat

Taylor Hull will run for the LNP in the Brisbane City Council ward of Holland Park at the 2028 election, as Krista Adams plans to stand down after almost two decades in local government.

If she wins, the 25-year-old adviser to state treasurer David Janetzki could become the city’s new youngest representative.

She would still be older than Calamvale councillor Emily Kim was when elected in 2024, or Chandler councillor Ryan Murphy when he was elected in 2012.

Hull unsuccessfully ran for the seat of Toohey at the 2024 state election.

Living in Mount Gravatt East, she holds a business degree from the Queensland University of Technology and previously sat on the lord mayor’s Youth Advisory Council.

“I’ll spend the time between now and 2028 listening to locals, learning from [former deputy mayor Adams], and working hard to earn the community’s support,” Hull said in a statement.

Her CV also includes volunteering through her local Rotary Club and mentoring women beginning careers in finance.

The LNP insider could find herself at City Hall before 2028. Parties are permitted to parachute candidates into wards without a byelection if retiring councillors choose to leave in the final stages of their term.

Before the last election, this happened in the Hamilton and Paddington wards, and Adams could do the same.

At the 2024 election, Labor attracted a swing of just over 1 per cent in the Holland Park Ward, with the LNP winning about 53.7 per cent of the two-party-preferred vote.

Labor confirmed it was yet to open its own nominations for the ward.

In a statement, its council leader, Jared Cassidy, said Hull would not be an effective advocate for the community.

“It’s remarkable that the LNP have chosen an adviser for the state treasurer that delivered Queensland’s first credit rating downgrade since 2009 as their candidate,” he said.

“Just as the current councillor has done for almost 20 years, this new LNP councillor will just be a mouthpiece for the LNP regime.”

Adams is resigning after almost two decades on council, having served as deputy mayor and as a senior member of civic cabinet.

This year she was appointed to the boards of Tourism and Events Queensland and Economic Development Queensland.

“After many years representing Holland Park Ward, there’s a lot of local knowledge and experience I want to share with Taylor,” Adams said in a statement.

“I’m looking forward to introducing Taylor to all the community groups, local businesses and residents I’m incredibly lucky to work with.

“There’s still plenty I want to get done before 2028 and my focus remains firmly on delivering for Holland Park Ward.”

Labor is adamant it can secure a swing towards it in 2028. The Greens also believe they can significantly increase their ward count.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has confirmed he will run for re-election, while Cassidy said he was also mulling a tilt for the top job.
