Canada explores potential associate membership with the European Union

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed that Canada become the European Union’s first associate member. The suggestion was made during her annual State of the EU address, where she expressed an interest in working with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to open the door for such an arrangement. This proposal follows recent discussions regarding a potential bespoke agreement between the two parties.
