White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles announces she is cancer-free

Six months after announcing that she’d be undergoing treatment for what President Donald Trump called “early stage breast cancer,” White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles says she is now “cancer free” following a checkup this week at the Mayo Clinic.

Wiles said in a post on X that her “pathology results came back clear” at the appointment and thanked her “family, friends, doctors” as well as “everyone who prayed” for her during her treatment.

The veteran GOP operative also offered a “special thank you” to Trump for what she described as “his unwavering support.”

“I am deeply grateful and will continue to work to advance his America First Agenda,” she added.

Wiles announcement came almost a full half-year to the day that Trump revealed the news of her diagnosis in a Truth Social post calling her “an incredible Chief of Staff, a great person, and one of the strongest people” while praising what he described as her “strength and ... Commitment to continue doing the job she loves, and does so well.”

She later confirmed the news in a statement noting that nearly one in eight women in the U.S. would face a similar diagnosis.

“Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks,” said Wiles, who added that she was “grateful” for her “outstanding team of doctors” who “detected the cancer early and are guiding [her] care.”

Wiles, 68, is the first woman to ever serve as a White House chief of staff since the advent of the position during the Eisenhower administration.

The Florida -based consultant, who co-managed Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, was one of a handful of political advisors to stick with him in the wake of his 2020 election loss and the January 6, 2021 riot he fomented while attempting to unlawfully overturn that loss.

She is his fifth chief of staff across the five total years he has served as president, and is generally considered to be the most successful at remaining in his good graces while managing the White House’s operations.

A savvy and tight-lipped operator, she has worked in Republican politics since the late 1970s, though her experience in government prior to last year was limited to a few years serving in the Reagan administration in the early 1980s. She later built a successful career as a political adviser and lobbyist in her adopted home state of Florida, where she first entered Trump’s orbit during his 2016 presidential run.
