Clearlake Capital has completed the acquisition of the remaining shares in Chelsea Football Club, taking full ownership of the Premier League side in a deal valued at £950 million.
Prior to the transaction, Clearlake held a 61.5 percent stake in the club, while American investors Todd Boehly, Mark Walter and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss each owned 12.8 percent. The purchase of the three minority stakes has raised Clearlake’s holding to 100 percent, giving the firm complete control of Chelsea.
Todd Boehly, who has served as chairman of Chelsea since the consortium’s purchase of the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022 for £2.3 billion, will step down from the role following the sale. Mark Walter, who sits on the club’s board, also relinquishes his shareholding as part of the transaction.
Hansjorg Wyss, the Swiss philanthropist and former co‑owner, sold his 12.8 percent stake at the same time, finalising the transfer of all minority interests to Clearlake.
Clearlake Capital is led by co‑founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, who will now oversee the club’s operations as its sole owner. Further details on the future direction of Chelsea under Clearlake’s sole ownership have not yet been disclosed.
