Western Australian Police Officer Charged with Alleged Assault of Infant Daughter

A 30-year-old Western Australian police officer has been charged and convicted following the assault of his five-week-old daughter. The officer, identified as Nickolas Wayne Peake, was taken into custody by Child Abuse Squad detectives on Sunday.

The incident resulted in the infant being transported to Perth Children's Hospital as a precautionary measure. Following the investigation, the officer was charged with one count of aggravated common assault.

Peake appeared at the Midland Magistrates Court in suburban Perth on Thursday. During the proceedings, he entered a plea of guilty to the charge of aggravated assault and was subsequently convicted.

The Western Australian Police Force has confirmed that the officer has been stood down from his duties. The matter has been adjourned, with the court scheduled to return on October 13 for sentencing.
