Chad Gilbert, a founding member, lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the pop‑punk band New Found Glory, died at the age of 45. The band and Gilbert’s wife, Lisa Cimorelli, confirmed his death in a joint statement posted on social media, noting that he “passed away peacefully in his sleep” on the morning of September 20.
Gilbert’s health decline became public in March when he underwent emergency brain surgery after three tumors were discovered. At that time, he disclosed that his metastatic pheochromocytoma had progressed to stage 4 adrenocortical carcinoma, a form of brain cancer.
Following the surgery, Gilbert received treatment for the aggressive cancer. Despite the interventions, his condition continued to deteriorate, leading to his eventual passing in September.
Family members and friends have expressed their grief, emphasizing Gilbert’s impact on the music community and his role in shaping New Found Glory’s sound since the band’s formation. The statement from his wife and the band highlighted his peaceful passing and thanked supporters for their condolences.
Gilbert’s death marks the loss of a prominent figure in the pop‑punk genre, with his contributions spanning over two decades of recording, touring, and songwriting with New Found Glory.
