Reuters/Ipsos Poll Shows Trump Approval Rating at Career-Low 32%

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has reached a career low of 32 percent, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. This decline follows a period of growing concern among the public regarding the cost of living and the ongoing conflict in Iran. The survey, which concluded on September 20, indicates a notable shift in sentiment compared to the 35 percent approval rating recorded just one week prior.

The drop in support is particularly evident within the Republican Party. Among Republican respondents, 73 percent now approve of the President’s job performance, a decrease from the 82 percent recorded in the previous week. For the first time, the number of Republicans who disapprove of the President’s handling of the cost of living—51 percent—outnumbers those who approve, at 44 percent.

Economic concerns remain the primary focus for voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, where Republicans are working to defend narrow congressional majorities. Only 17 percent of all respondents in the poll expressed approval of the President’s management of the cost of living. This issue is widely cited by Americans as the most significant factor that will influence their voting decisions.

The current economic climate has been heavily influenced by the war in Iran, which was launched in February. The conflict has contributed to a sharp rise in gasoline and diesel prices, fueling dissatisfaction among the electorate. These developments contrast with the start of the President’s term in January 2025, when he returned to the White House on a platform centered on taming inflation and ending foreign military engagements.

At the time of his inauguration in January, the President held a 47 percent approval rating. The recent four-day poll, conducted online, gathered responses from 1,277 adults across the United States to measure the current political landscape as the midterm elections approach.
