At Least Five Wounded in Shooting Outside Turkish High School

At least eight students were wounded in a shooting outside a high school in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, Turkey, on the morning of September 22. Authorities received reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School at 7:59 a.m.

Local officials confirmed that the assailant, who was identified as a student, was apprehended following the attack. While initial reports indicated at least five people were injured, subsequent updates from broadcasters placed the number of wounded pupils at eight. Two of the victims are currently reported to be in critical condition.

Footage circulating online appears to show a male individual carrying a rifle while walking along a street near the school premises. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.

This event follows a series of security concerns regarding educational institutions in Turkey. Two fatal school shootings occurred in April, which sparked public outrage and led government officials to announce plans for stricter security protocols and tighter gun controls for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year.
