Trump warns of “annihilating” Iran at UN, predicts post‑midterm deal

President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, speaking to a gathering of world leaders on a range of topics that included the ongoing conflict with Iran and the regulation of artificial intelligence.

In his remarks on the Iran situation, the president said he was weighing whether to “annihilate” Iran in order to end a war that has now lasted nearly seven months. He described the conflict as having severely weakened the Islamic Republic, noting that Tehran has lost its entire navy and is experiencing inflation that has exceeded 300 percent.

Trump also indicated that he expects the United States and Iran to reach a peace agreement after the upcoming U.S. midterm elections in November. He said he believes a deal will be made following the election, suggesting that the conflict could be resolved in the near future.

Turning to technology, the president rejected what he called a “globalist scheme” to regulate artificial intelligence, a measure that several countries, including Australia, have joined. He announced that the United States would rename artificial intelligence to “super intelligence” in all government documents, arguing that the new term is “much better, and it’s much more accurate,” and expressed hope that other nations would adopt the change.

Compared with his speech at the UN last year, which focused heavily on climate change and migration, Trump’s address was described as less combative, though it continued to emphasize his positions on Iran and AI regulation.
