Taylor Swift announces new single 'Patient Zero' for September 25

Taylor Swift has new music on the way, as the pop superstar revealed she’ll be releasing her new single, “Patient Zero,” on Friday.

“I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single “Patient Zero” will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!),” Swift posted on Instagram on Tuesday. Swift had put up a 24-hour countdown on Monday set to 2 p.m. ET, and with the reveal, she’s listing three different collector’s edition CDs for the single for the next 24 hours.

Swift has been teasing something new in the works for weeks, which has led to Swifties vigilantly anticipating her next move, speculating if she’s got a new album coming, if there could be a Taylor’s version of her 2006 debut album on the way as it nears its 20th anniversary in October, more tracks from her Life of a Showgirl era, or something else entirely. “Patient Zero” seems likely to be a part of whatever she has planned, though as of now, it’s still unclear what that is.

“Patient Zero” will be Swift’s first single since her Toy Story 5 track “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which itself has become a front-runner in the Oscar race for best original song.

Swift’s kept busy in 2026, becoming the youngest-ever honoree to be inaugurated into the Songwriters Hall of Fame back in June, and getting married to Travis Kelce in July. She’s set to be honored at the VMAs this coming weekend for the award show’s inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director honor.
