Second man charged in murder of OneFour associate Alai Ahio

A second man has been charged with murder over the alleged shooting death of OneFour associate Alai Ahio at a home in Sydney’s south-west earlier this year.

Four other men were also injured in the shooting at Canley Heights in May.

Mahmoud Atwa, 37, is due to face court on Wednesday charged with murder, possessing or using a prohibited weapon and participating in a criminal group.

He is the second man charged with murder over Ahio’s shooting death. Rishi Prakash, 24, was arrested at Sydney International Airport in July and remains before the courts.

Ahio, 28, died in Liverpool Hospital after the shooting on Arbutus Street. Police described the alleged attack as targeted, brazen and violent.

A social media account linked to Ahio was tagged in photos with members of the western Sydney rap group OneFour.

One picture also showed Ahio with “14” tattooed on his neck. Police sources have also confirmed the connection.

An online tribute to Ahio in the hours after his death encouraged others to “turn and give you [sic] life to Christ before it’s to [sic] late”.

“Love you lai running out on the field is not going to be the same without you next to me,” the tribute read.

Four other men aged 32, 23, 22 and 19 were also treated for wounds sustained in the alleged attack.
