SIT chargesheet in Ram Temple donation theft case names eight accused

Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) filed the chargesheet in the Ram Temple embezzlement case in Ayodhya before a local court. Eight accused are named in the document which details the sequence of events and findings from an investigation into the theft of cash and donations, sources said.

“Today marks roughly 90 days in the temple embezzlement case. The charge sheet was presented before the court by the investigating officer. The charge sheet pertains to Sections 316(5), 372, 375, 162, 131A, 132 of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” said Kul Shekhar Singh of the Legal Aid Defense Council, who is representing the accused in the case.

The chargesheet, encompassing annexures and supplementary documentation, comprises thousands of pages and has been characterised by investigators as among the most extensive submissions. It delineates the management of funds collected at the Ram temple, their subsequent transfer to financial institutions, and the documentation and verification of significant charitable contributions.

The court will now examine the chargesheet and fix a date for a hearing on its admissibility. Further legal action will be decided based on the facts revealed. The court records will clarify the roles of the individuals named in the report.

As soon as local advocates at the District Court learnt about the chargesheet being filed they launched a protest by halting work and going on strike.

They gathered outside the courtroom of the Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) to register their protest. The advocates contend that a hearing should have been held regarding the objections they had raised before the chargesheet was filed.
