Police arrest actors, politicians protesting against Netanyahu outside UN - Reuters

New York City police arrested at least 30 individuals on September 24 during a protest held outside the United Nations headquarters. The demonstration took place ahead of an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations General Assembly.

The group organizing the rally, Jewish Voice for Peace, gathered approximately 200 participants who wore identical white T-shirts featuring slogans such as "Fund people not bombs," "No war," and "Free Palestine." During the event, protesters blocked traffic near the UN complex, leading police to issue orders to disperse via loudspeakers.

Among those taken into custody were several notable figures, including Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon, Emmy winner Hannah Einbinder, Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, and New York City council member Chi Osse. Participants stated that the protest was intended to voice opposition to the ongoing military actions in Gaza and the use of United States tax dollars to support them.

Inside the General Assembly Hall, Prime Minister Netanyahu delivered a speech defending Israel’s actions in the region. His appearance occurred amid growing international scrutiny regarding the conflict, and reports noted that dozens of delegates exited the hall as he began his address.

The protest reflected a broader effort by activists to challenge the Prime Minister’s platform at the United Nations. Participants argued that the international body should not be used to justify the current military campaign, while the Prime Minister utilized the session to present his government's position to the international community.
