Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery suspends operations following drone attack

The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region has suspended its operations following a drone attack. The facility, which serves as a significant site for oil processing in the area, was forced to halt production temporarily due to the damage sustained during the incident.

Regional authorities confirmed that the refinery was targeted overnight. Governor Yuri Slyusar reported that the facility was struck as part of a broader aerial engagement in the region.

Russian air defense units were active throughout the night in response to the incoming threats. Officials stated that approximately 50 drones were destroyed over the Rostov region during the course of the operation.

While the air defense systems intercepted a large number of the devices, the impact on the refinery necessitated an immediate pause in its industrial activities. The extent of the physical damage to the infrastructure is currently being assessed by technical teams on-site.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties resulting from the attack on the refinery. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the facility remains offline while recovery efforts are organized.
