Former TV anchor crowned 13th monarch of Uganda's Tooro Kingdom

A former television news anchor was crowned king of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom on Tuesday, marking the formal installation of the 13th monarch of the Batooro people. The ceremony took place in Fort Portal, serving as the culmination of a period of transition for the region.

The enthronement ceremony was characterized by traditional rituals intended to solidify the new monarch's position. The event brought an end to a succession dispute that had previously created uncertainty regarding the kingdom's leadership.

The Tooro Kingdom is one of several traditional monarchies recognized within Uganda. These institutions hold cultural and ceremonial significance for their respective communities, often playing a role in local heritage and social cohesion.

The transition to the new king follows the resolution of internal disagreements that had surrounded the succession process. With the completion of the coronation rites, the kingdom moves forward under its new leadership, concluding the period of contention that had preceded the appointment.
