‘Game of Thrones’ Finally Hitting Big Screen in 2029 With Warner Bros.’ ‘Aegon’s Conquest’

Warner Bros. has announced that the Game of Thrones franchise will make its first theatrical debut with a feature film titled Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest. The movie is scheduled for release on June 6, 2029, marking the first time the series’ expansive universe will appear on the big screen.

The film is set several centuries before the events of the original television series and will focus on Aegon I Targaryen, the first Targaryen king who united much of Westeros through a series of conquests. Aegon’s campaign, undertaken with his dragon Balerion the Black Dread and his sisters‑wives Visenya and Rhaenys, laid the foundation for the Targaryen dynasty that later produced characters such as Daenerys Targaryen.

Owen Harris has been confirmed as director, while the screenplay is being written by Beau Willimon. As of the announcement, casting details for the role of Aegon and other characters have not been disclosed.

The project is described as the inaugural “official movie” of the Game of Thrones brand, expanding the franchise beyond television and streaming formats. No further plot specifics have been released, and the production team has kept additional narrative elements under wraps.

The release date places the film in the 2029 summer schedule, positioning it alongside other major studio releases slated for that year. Warner Bros. has not provided further information regarding marketing or distribution strategies at this time.
