Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has launched a High Court challenge against Thames Valley Police regarding his arrest earlier this year. The legal action seeks to review the circumstances of his detention related to an investigation into the leaking of government documents.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has initiated legal action against Thames Valley Police to challenge the lawfulness of his arrest and the subsequent investigation into his alleged connection to the Jeffrey Epstein files. The former Duke of York has requested a judicial review regarding the search warrants that authorized police to raid his home on the Sandringham Estate and his former residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
The legal challenge follows an arrest that took place eight months ago in February, occurring on the former prince’s 66th birthday at Marsh Farm in Norfolk. Following his detention, he was transported to Aylsham Police Station, where he was questioned for nearly 12 hours on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was subsequently released under investigation.
Reports indicate that the investigation centers on allegations that Mountbatten-Windsor may have leaked government documents to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as a special representative for trade between 2001 and 2011. During the course of the inquiry, detectives spent several days searching both Marsh Farm and Royal Lodge, removing various documents and items.
The legal action marks a significant historical moment, as it is the first time a member of the British royal family has challenged the lawfulness of criminal proceedings against them since the trial of King Charles I in 1649. His legal team is reportedly focused on examining the validity of the search warrants, which were granted by an Old Bailey judge following an application by Thames Valley Police.
Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein, though he has previously expressed regret regarding their past friendship. Neither Thames Valley Police nor Buckingham Palace have provided immediate comment on the ongoing legal developments.
