U.S. President Donald Trump said he believes he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize but expressed uncertainty about whether the award will be granted to him. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, he suggested that it would be a “great discredit” to the Nobel Peace Prize committee if they did not award him the prize this year.

Trump noted that he is among the 287 candidates nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, which the Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce on Friday. He added that the committee “has a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me,” indicating his doubts about the outcome.

Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has repeatedly asserted that he merits the world’s most prestigious peace award. He recalled receiving an indirect acknowledgment in January when Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented him with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal while seeking U.S. support for her efforts in Venezuela.

The president also said that leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have indicated they nominated him for the prize, though there is no independent verification of those nominations. He highlighted his involvement in eight conflicts since taking office in January, positioning this as part of his claim to the award.

Critics of Trump’s diplomatic record dispute his role in resolving those conflicts, and fighting has reportedly flared again in some of the regions he cites, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the border between Cambodia and Thailand.

As the Nobel Committee prepares to announce the laureates on Friday, Trump reiterated his belief that he should win the prize while acknowledging that the decision remains uncertain.
