A north Brisbane woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill her two sons with a noxious substance.

Police allege the 47-year-old Mitchelton woman attempted to kill the boys – aged 12 and 15 – by exposing them to a harmful poison.

The act was reported to police by a 70-year-old man who detected the substance when he attended the home on September 24.

The children did not require medical treatment, and are safe and well, police said. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
